November Bluebirds!

I found four Eastern Bluebirds perched in fabulous light atop the drumlin this morning. It was cold. Temperatures were in the upper twenties and the bluebirds appeared to be finding dead (or dying) insects on the ground to eat, but they were also feeding on sumac berries. Between sorties, they would perch on the branches of a nearby oak tree and scan the ground. When something caught their attention from below, they would fly down to grab it. At one point, two of the bluebirds perched on sumac within a few feet from me, which prompted me to take several steps back. It's pretty amazing to see beautiful birds like this so close!
