Just an Hour...

Fox Sparrow

Conditions were too windy for bird photography this morning. There was just enough time to get an hour's hike around the prairie before a snowstorm moved in. The only warbler species I encountered was a pair of Orange-crowned Warblers. Most of the White-throated and White-crowned Sparrows seem to have moved on. I expected to see American Tree Sparrows, but found none. There was an increase in Fox Sparrows, and they were beautiful in the early morning sunlight. The above photograph was taken during the fall of 2015. On this morning I didn't bother to carry my digiscoping rig with me―I just wanted to get in a quick check on avian activity before heading in for the day.
