The first Red-winged Blackbirds of spring arrived at the wetlands near the end Mineral Point Road sometime today. I didn't see them this morning, but there were a few of them singing away on my way home from work. The two Rough-legged Hawks that had been hunting at Barneveld Prairie have departed, and I haven't seen any Northern Shrikes for a week or so. Some of my coworkers have reported an uptick in American Robins, and a few people have spotted Sandhill Cranes. Well, here we go! The beginning of yet another rendition of the Greatest Nature Show on Earth.
Get out there and welcome them back!
