Buffalo Treehoppers!

"What amazes me the most about Earth… its capacity to hold countless unique forms of life that depend on numerous specific needs and different processes from the Earth itself. Earth reminds me that I belong to something much bigger.  We are so lucky to have the insight and ability to discover its mysteries. It’s so magical and beautiful how much of an effect we can have in such a short time."

This is actually last weekend's blog. I meant to get to this earlier in the week, but I've been procrastinating. It's a shorter blog, just to announce my first Buffalo Treehoppers of the summer insecting season. These small, greenish insects are part of the Membracidae family and are often found on a variety of plants, including trees and shrubs. They use their piercing-sucking mouthparts to feed on plant sap, and while they typically do not cause significant harm, heavy infestations can weaken plants. Buffalo treehoppers are also known for their interesting lifecycle, which includes laying eggs in plant stems. The nymphs, which resemble miniature versions of the adults but without wings, undergo several molts before reaching maturity. Their unique appearance and life habits make them a subject of interest for both entomologists and nature enthusiasts alike.
I believe the one above is Stictocephala bisonia, and this next one Stictocephala taurina. I'm not 100% certain, but that's my best guess with the minimal research I did.
Aren't they adorable?

And some shots from Parfrey's Glen ...
Parfrey's Glen in the Baraboo Hills offers a refreshing escape from summer's heat, providing a cool, shaded retreat amidst its lush, verdant landscape. The narrow gorge, carved by a stream, features towering sandstone cliffs adorned with moss and ferns, creating a natural air-conditioned environment. Visitors can enjoy the soothing sounds of flowing water and the gentle rustle of leaves, all while hiking through the glen's unique geological formations. The dense canopy overhead filters the sunlight, ensuring that the trails remain comfortably cool even on the hottest days. This tranquil oasis is perfect for those seeking a peaceful respite from the sweltering temperatures, offering a serene and picturesque experience in Nature.
The little falls at the end of the trail ...
Summer is at its peak, and Nature reveals its full splendor. As July fades, we are reminded of the beauty in every moment and the fleeting nature of the seasons. Embrace the warmth, the vibrant life, and the serenity of the wild places that beckon us to explore and cherish.
And that's probably it for July!
